The Constant Gardener

Caught the movie "The Constant Gardener" today with my sis. Good movie, strong acting cast, esp. ralph fiennes. About the unravelling of the conspiracy of pharmaceutical company, british govt... carrying out guinea pigs tests on the african community. depicting how helpless the poor could be under the hands of the rich & powerful...the ruthlessness on how the rich & powerful can carry out unorthadox means to bring the so-called benefits t0 the developed countries people...also there are marvel aerial cinemtaography of african landscapes

About the Movie:

Rating: NC16 Consumer Advice: Scenes of intimacy
Director: Fernando Meirelles
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Rachel Weisz, Danny Huston, Bill Nighy, Pete Postlethwaite, Gerard McSorley

Synopses: In a remote area of Northern Kenya, the region's most dedicated activist, the brilliant and passionate Tessa Quayle (Rachel Weisz) has been found brutally murdered. Tessa's travelling companion, a local doctor, appears to have fled the scene, and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Sandy Woodrow (Danny Huston), Sir Bernard Pellegrin (Bill Nighy), and the other members of the British High Commission in Nairobi assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered and unambitious colleague Justin Quayle (Ralph Fiennes), will leave the matter to their discretion. They could not be more wrong.... Haunted by remorse and jarred by rumors of his wife's infidelities, Justin surprises himself by plunging headlong into a dangerous odyssey. Determined to clear his wife's name and "finish what she started," Justin takes a crash course to learn about the pharmaceutical industry whose crimes Tessa was on the verge of uncovering, and journeys across two continents in search of the truth. Based on the novel by John Le Carré.

memoirs of a geisha

finally managed to catch memoirs of a geisha with htin (promised to watch it with him...but was quite bz during cny)...b4 the cinema stop the running of the movie...guess it was not really up to my expectations...but got to say gong li's performance was great..the stage set was not bad...liek the part...the entrance to michelle yeoh's character's (mameha)okiya ...the 2 sides of the staircase line with bamboo wall towards the paper screen sliding door...the perspective captured...not to forget "the eel entering the cave"

sunday of games

had a fun a sunday with a few sneakies...cos we intended spend our sunday afternoon playing yugioh..a card game...at the coffe bean near SAM...we played a few rounds b4 keith came wuith his "new" (to me, cos never play b4) board game called settlers...quite a fun stratgic game on territory expansion...building roads, settlements, cities based on resources...etc...dun really know how to describe how the game is being played...guess u got to have hands on to get into the game itself...not hard to pick it up...

btw we intended to wear our sneaky 8 t-shirt today...but was disappoint when junhan (the one who did the tees for us) din wear and yiming too...haiz...never mind cos not every is present today...we shld all wear it next time...and take a nice gp foto...hehe

I not Stupid too

watched the Jack Neo's movie "I Not Stupid too" on friday with kevin...its not as bad than i tot...i guess cos the subject matter is quite close to our daily lives...typical singaporean family...one could easily relate to it and be touched by it...a scene in particular is when one fo the kid in the movie "stole" money from the unattended cash of the canteen vendor to raise money to buy his father's time to watched his performance in sch...this time round more drama is added to the movie compared to the 1st...esp. the public caning in the sch scene is quite exaggerating i tot...anyway...on the whole is not a bad movie...and easily understandable by many...worth to watched it during the weekdays...hehe

busy CNY & interim crit

this year CNY have been the busiest i think (i actually brought my laptop to my uncle's place to do my work on chu yi)...cos the following day after the hols is interim crit....actually the its suppose to be on the 7th feb but my tutor OTB will not be in s'pore by that day...so they brought it forward...anyway its over...the crit panel comments wasn't that bad...as expected need to bridge or make the bridging of the spatial translation and the architecture clearer...and also shld question more on the program for the architecture...think thats the main 2 points...any other things missing??? (sigh...maybe too tired din really put my presentation across clear...)
